We're planning to be able to make the offer to any of our parents who'll take us up that when the day comes, they can move in with us. Complicated decision...

As for Paul, he'll definitely be that much smarter and we'll be the tech-phobes one day. Whether he takes us in or picks a home for us, no doubt there'll be an app for that... ;-)J.P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07384154742622098517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-861108875908194070.post-39609366628397635562010-04-04T17:31:57.473+02:002010-04-04T17:31:57.473+02:00JP,

It seems that no matter the situation, I can recall a scene from a movie or TV show that fits it well. I've referred to myself as a modern day Martin Tupper, usually to blank stares of those who have no idea of what I speak. But on to your topic.

It's not just the young who are wrestling with tech. My mother is 56, and the most technologically advanced thing she owns is a CD player. And even THAT was a hard sell! No cell phone, no computer, no DirecTV, no iPod. I bought her a callerID-equipped cordless phone for the house (so she can stop screening her calls), but she won't spend the $0.35/year to activate it. And she still has an answering machine, for crissakes!! She's a technological dinosaur, and it scares me that in this day and age of cutbacks and layoffs she's voluntarily phasing herself out of the relevant world. Granted, she's really in no danger of losing her job, but still. These are the things I worry about. My dad passed in 2001, and I'm an only child. We're the only family each of us really has. So my advice is to encourage Paul to learn everything he can about anything he can get his hands on. It will do nothing but make him that much smarter. And who knows, maybe when it comes time for him to pick out The Home for you and Steph, there'll be an app for that :)

Best wishes,
Big SteveAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
